About Dr. Debra Osman
I grew up in Detroit and received a B.S. in Biology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, becoming the first person in my family to graduate from college. I then took two years off to travel, work, and decide what I wanted to do next. After volunteering at the Haight Ashbury Medical Center at the beginning of the AIDs crisis, working at a nursing home, and as a medical assistant at an OB/GYN office in San Francisco, I decided to go to medical school. I attended medical school at the University of Texas at Houston.
In 1988, I began my internship at Mt. Zion Hospital, and after a year of intensive hospital-based training, I needed a year to decide what type of medicine I really wanted to practice. I spend half a year working at a community clinic and the other time was spent traveling throughout Southeast Asia. Taking a year to decide was the best decision I have ever made. When I returned, I finished the last two years of internal medicine residency at UCSF with the plan of entering primary care.
I have been lucky to be able to work in one of the most diverse and dynamic cities in the world, and my patients at Bayspring have been equally fascinating and diverse. I enjoy both preventative care in healthy patients, as well as diagnosing and treating those with a variety of medical problems. Besides practicing medicine, my passions include my family, traveling to faraway places, and growing things in my garden.
